RED WING, MN (WSAU) -- Collectors of pottery may want to buy now before it’s too late. Red Wing Pottery in Red Wing, Minnesota has announced they are likely to close by the end of the year unless they are bought.
Scott Gillmer is the third-generation owner of the nearly 150-year-old business. He says the modern market has bigger retailers to compete with, and the dollars aren’t there to continue in their current business format.
Red Wing Pottery has thirteen full-time employees, and often hires up to fifty seasonal workers. The company started by making salt-glaze storage crocks for farmers in the early 1860’s.
