Milwaukee Brewers fall to Pittsburgh 5-2 Saturday

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The Milwaukee Brewers lost for the 17th time in 22 games in May as Pittsburgh took a 5-2 decision Saturday night.

Despite having five hitters in the lineup over the .300 mark, the Brewers have scored just two runs in three straight games.

Pittsburgh pounded 4 homers, accounting for all of its runs. Pedro Alvarez knocked the ball out of the park twice.

Mike Fiers gave up 3 of the long balls while replacing Kyle Lohse as the starting pitcher. Fiers was knocked out after four innings, paying the price for pitching behind in the count.

Jeff Locke started and won the game for Pittsburgh. He threw six scoreless innings, giving up only 3 hits. Locke has won 4 games in a row.

Andrew McCutcheon homered in the first, pounded a pitch from Fiers out of the park for a third straight at bat. Alvarez had a two-run round tripper in the second and Neil Walker added a solo shot in the 4th.

Alvarez wrapped up the scoring with a second homer in the 9th.

Carlos Gomez accounted for both Milwaukee runs with two home runs.

Milwaukee sends Yovani Gallardo to the mound in the series finale. He will be opposed by Wandy Rodriguez. Pregame on 1360/97.5 WTAQ News Talk Sports begins at 12:35 p.m. Sunday, with the first pitch at 1:10.
