The WIAA conducted regional track and field meets across the state Monday afternoon, the first step toward the state meet at UW-LaCrosse next month. The Green Bay Preble boys piled up 199 points in capturing their 22nd consecutive regional championship, made better yet by hosting the meet on the newly dedicated Jack Drankoff track at Gauthier Family Stadium. Senior Jake Wallenfang dominated the meet by recording first place finishes in four events. He won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and anchored the winning 400 meter relay team. In between the preliminary heat and final races, Wallenfang worked his way to the pole vault pit. Already holding the school record in that event, Wallenfang soared to a leap of 16 feet, becomming just the fourth high school athlete ever to go that high. The last time it happened was 29 years ago. Wallenfang went six inches higher than he had ever gone before. The recognized state meet record is 15-8.
