GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - U.S. Coast Guard officials are reminding boaters to be safe out on the water.
Saturday was the kickoff to National Safe Boating week.
The Green Bay Coast Guard Station held an open house to raise awareness about the event. The event featured safe kayak demonstrations, free boat safety checks and more.
Officials want to everyone to wear their life jacket, not drink and boat, and to take boat safety classes. They also say you should always have a plan before heading out onto the water.
"Many times people are in a rush, they want to get on the water, they want to go and have fun. Make a plan before you go. Let someone know where you're going and just be prepared before you go out there," CPO Kyle Dupree with the Green Bay Coast Guard station told FOX 11. \
National Safe Boating Week runs until May 24th.
