Delay sought in trial for husband charged with killing Wausau native

ST. PAUL, MN, (WTAQ) - Prosecutors joined the defense Friday in seeking a delay in a May 28th trial for the man suspected of killing Wausau area native Kira Steger Trevino.

New court records came out Friday, showing that Trevino had a head wound, bruises in her lip, a broken finger, and cuts to her liver.

Her body was found naked in the Mississippi River in Saint Paul on Wednesday – and besides her injuries, authorities said she had duct tape in her hair.

Trevino’s husband Jeffrey is scheduled to go on trial in 18 days on two counts of second degree murder.

But prosecutors say they’ll need a month to perform DNA tests on the new evidence – and an autopsy is expected to take six weeks to finish.

Among the unanswered questions is whether the injuries were caused before she died, or after.

Prosecutors suspect that Jeffrey Trevino killed his wife in their Saint Paul bedroom.

The 30-year-old Kira had been missing since February 21st.

Police say they’re still investigating.
