Cardinals big inning beats Brewers

The St. Louis Cardinals piled up six runs in the third inning and that was enough to hold off the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 at Miller Park Thursday night.   The Cardinals finished with 12 hits in the game, all singles.  Allan Craig and Peter Kozma both had two run singles in the big inning off starter and losing pitcher Wily Peralta (2-2).  He was taken out after four and a third innings, giving up 11 hits.  The Brewers managed only one run off winner Jake Westrbook (2-1) who worked six innings for the 100th victory of his career.   The Brewers tried to rally late, scoring four runs over the final three innings but they came up short.  Ryan Braun and Carlos Gomez each had two hits and an RBI for Milwaukee (14-13).  The Brewers are now two and a half games behind St. Louis in the division race and they'll send ex-Cardinal Kyle Lohse to the mound against Shelby Miller in game two of the four game series Friday night.   Pre-game coverage on WTAQ begins at 6:35 PM.
