MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Janesville Democrat Tim Cullen is criticizing a colleague in the Assembly for having what Cullen calls, “an 1800s mentality.”
State Representative Dean Kaufert responded to announced plans by the six Chippewa tribes in Wisconsin to spear nearly 60,000 walleye this spring, significantly more than last year. Kaufert said that would do damage to tourism and the Neenah Republican said he would push for reconsideration of a $250,000 grant approved for a cultural center for the Lac du Flambeau Bank of Lake Superior Chippewa.
Cullen, a Democrat, says Kaufert is punishing the Native Americans.
Kaufert told the AP he is not trying to get back against the Lac du Flambeau and he accused Cullen of using “the racist card.”
