MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) - The Marshfield man accused of secretly videotaping nude girls at a hotel has pled guilty. 29-year-old Joseph D. Wright will be sentenced for capturing an image of nudity without consent as a repeat offender. The other related charges will be dismissed and read in at his sentencing.
Wright allegedly placing his cellphone in record mode and positioned it on the bathroom floor at the Comfort Inn and Suites Hotel October 7th. The victim found the device while removing her swimsuit. She immediately contacted authorities because she believed the recorder was running. Wright was an employee of the hotel at the time. He tried to claim his phone was missing, but police concluded that wasn’t true since the video recording also captured the image of Wright placing the device in the girl’s bathroom.
Part of the plea agreement calls for prosecutors to seek no more than 18 months in prison, but Wright could end up with no prison time depending on the outcome of a presentence investigation. Wood County Circuit Judge Todd Wolf schedule Wright’s sentencing for May 7.
