APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Five counties in east central Wisconsin are working together to protect Lake Winnebago and its connecting waterways.
Fond du Lac, Calumet, Outagamie, Waushara, and Winnebago counties are all part of the Winnebago Lakes Council – which received a $50,000 matching grant from the DNR.
The agency is about to find out what folks believe are the key issues in a water network that connects Winnebago – the state’s largest inland lake – with Lake Butte des Morts, Lake Poygan, Lake Winneconne, and the Fox and Wolf rivers.
Council president Mike Lizotte says algae, zebra mussels, and boat landing fees could be some of the topics addressed. He said a multi-county boat launching pass has been brought up in the past but never adopted – and that’s one thing which may come up again.
