Report: Ron Johnson to seek second U.S. Senate term

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - U.S. Senate Republican Ron Johnson reportedly plans to run for a second term in 2016.

According to the congressional news outlet “The Hill,” Johnson told a recent meeting of influential Washington Republicans that he won’t be a one-term “citizen legislator” if he can help it.

And Mary Vought, his senior communications adviser, told The Hill that Johnson has started fundraising for a second campaign.

Johnson left a plastics packaging businesses that he built in Oshkosh to run for the Senate. And he spent millions of his own dollars to defeat Senate Democrat Russ Feingold in 2010.

The Hill says Johnson's direct approach to policy matters sometimes clashes with the Senate’s more subdued approach. And as a result, the paper said there’s been talk that Johnson would leave after one six-year term.

The Hill said Johnson would appear on ABC’s “This Week” this Sunday to discuss the possibility of reaching a broad deal on slashing the national debt.
