The 21st ranked Green Bay Phoenix Women captured the outright Horizon League championship by beating Detroit at Callihan Hall 71-63 Thursday night. It marks the 15th consecutive year Green Bay has claimed the conference regular season championship. Megan Luken scored a career high 20 points for the Phoenix, hitting six of eight three point shots in the second half after missing her first five attempts in the first. Stephanie Sension added 14 points for Green Bay, now 13-0 in Horizon play and 23-2 overall on the season. The victory also means Green Bay will host the semifinals and championship game of the Horizon League tournament in two weeks.
Former Green Bay star Julie Wojta has signed a free agent contract with the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars. The Phoenix All-American was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx but failed to stick on two occassions last year. She played professionally in Belgium this past season.
