Adam Levine Says He's Created the "Anti" Celebrity Fragrance

What do Adam Levine 's two new signature fragrances smell like?  Going by the video he's created to promote them, it's motorcycles, horses, vintage cars, flowers, water and, uh, women in bondage gear whipping one another.

In the video, which you can now see exclusively on People magazine's website , ominous music plays and we see quick-cut footage of those items -- including those kinky women --  interspersed with the Maroon 5 frontman speaking earnestly about his new men's and women's fragrances.

"I typically hate celebrity fragrances," he says right off the bat.  "I don't necessarily believe that the people promoting them were particularly connected to what they were making.  And I want to be involved every step of the way."

Adam goes on to describe his fragrances as "very basic and very classic, the anti-celebrity fragrance, very simple."  And why is simplicity so important to him?

"You don't want to be alarmed by a scent.  You want to be alluring or mysterious in some way," he explains.  "You don't want to feel like you ripped a page out of a magazine and rubbed it all over your body.  You want to have something that's uniquely your own."

He also says it was important for him that the perfume bottles be "sophisticated" and "elegant," and not "offensive," though we're not sure how offensive a bottle of cologne could actually be.

More than anything, though, Adam says his scents are "are bold and unique and make people feel good about themselves...and that's a good thing to do."

By the way, if you want to know what the fragrances actually smell like, the men's one is described as "a vibrant rush of mandarin, grapefruit, and lemongrass, intensified by notes of amber, sandalwood, and cedarwood."  The women's scent is "an overdose of spice intermingled with Indian jasmine petals, Australian sandalwood, and rose petals" with a "base of creamy vanilla."  Both are available at Macy's.
