MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) - State Department of Natural Resources officials may be raising the quota on wolf kills this year.
A new number of 275 wolves is being proposed. That's up from the limit of 201 from last year, though not that many were harvested. 85 of those tags were set aside for the state's Ojibwa tribes, and hunters from the tribes did not take any wolves. Officials estimate there are still around 830 wolves in the state.
The board will discuss the new limits next week in Wausau. Testimony and public comment will be taken at the meeting.
