Tigers,White Sox Win, Cubs and Whitecaps Lose, Griffins and Blackhawks Both Win First game of Finals

>>Tigers Top Indians

Prince Fielder knocked in three runs to power the Tigers to a 6-4 win over the Indians in Detroit.  Andy Dirks added a run scored and two RBI for Detroit, which has won three straight.  Rick Porcello struck out seven in six innings of two-run ball for the win.  Jose Valverde picked up his eighth save.  The Tigers take on Cleveland at Comerica Park again today.  Game coverage on 1450 WHTC gets started at 12:40 P.M.

 >>Cubs Lose to Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh  Pirates down the Chicago Cubs, 6-2, in the middle game of a three- game set at Wrigley Field on Saturday.  Alfonso  Soriano connected on  a two-run shot in the ninth to help prevent the Cubs from being held scoreless for the second straight game.  Soriano has hit safely in five straight games.  Last game of a 3 game set this afternoon at Wrigley.

 >>White Sox Over Oakland

John Danks pitched three-hit ball over eight innings for his first victory in more than a year, and the Chicago White Sox won for just the second time in 12 games, beating the surging Oakland Athletics 4-1 on Saturday.  Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko homered. Alex Rios drove in the go-ahead run, and the White Sox handed the Athletics just their fourth loss in 22 games.  The two teams meet again this afternoon.

 >>Whitecaps Lose Two

The Lansing Lugnuts’ Kramer Champlin finished one batter shy of a perfect game on Saturday night, headlining a doubleheader sweep in which the West Michigan Whitecaps failed to score a run while losing by scores of 3-0 and 2-0 at Fifth Third Ballpark.  Logan Ehlers (0-3) suffered the loss despite holding the Lugnuts to one run over four innings in a solid spot start.  The Whitecaps continue an eight-game, six-day homestand with a second consecutive doubleheader against the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Ballpark.

 >>Griffins Take First Game

Petr Mrazek made 28 saves and Riley Sheahan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with eight minutes remaining as the Grand Rapids Griffins took Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals by a 3-1 count over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday at the Onondaga County War Memorial.  Game 2 will be Sunday at 6 p.m. in Syracuse before the series shifts to Van Andel Arena on Wednesday, June 12 for the first of as many as three straight games.

 >>Blackhawks Win

Patrick  Kane's goal  with 8:20 remaining in double  overtime,  his third of the  contest, sent the Chicago Blackhawks into the  Stanley  Cup Finals  thanks to a  4-3 victory over  the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals from United Center.  Boston's  advancing in a sweep against Pittsburgh on Friday.  Game 1 is slated for Wednesday in the Windy City. It will mark the first time the Blackhawks and Bruins have clashed for the Cup.
