ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - More than a year-and-a-half in the making, officials finally opened the doors to Wisconsin's third Cabela's store to the public Thursday.
It's the start of a weekend kickoff for the 100,000 square foot space featuring giveaways, outdoor celebrities and family events.
Customers began lining up around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to be the first through the doors following Thursday's ceremonial ribbon cutting.
The Titletown District-based store is a next generation design, featuring outdoor products, a mountain replica, hundreds of museum-quality wildlife displays, an aquarium and indoor archery range and gun library, a bargain cave, along with a deli and fudge shop.
Officials say for the first time, this store will have a Wisconsin Sportsman's Hall of Fame showcasing trophy animal mounts and other memorabilia honoring the state's outdoor heritage.
Store officials estimate between 6,000 and 7,000 customers enter their stores each day, but this kickoff weekend may top that. They expect a big bump from the start of training camp for the Green Bay Packers on Friday.
