Grocery store burglary suspect sought in Markesan

MARKESAN, WI (WTAQ) - Police in Markesan are searching for a man who broke into a grocery store and damaged its safe last weekend.

Authorities say it happened at the Piggly Wiggly, 450 North Margaret St., around 11 p.m. Sunday.

The man tried to get into the store's safe, but could not. He did manage to damage the safe extensively. The man left the store just after midnight.

He was described as being between 25 and 35-years-old. He had an average to stocky build and was about 6'1". He was wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt, blue jeans, hiking-style shoes and had an olive green backpack.

Surveillance images released by the police department can be seen above.

Police believe someone else may have helped him get into the store.
