WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Attendance and prices are both up significantly at gun shows, including here in Wisconsin. The gun show this weekend at Cedar Creek near Wausau had nearly three times as many people show up as last year. Attendance for Saturday was estimated to be over 2,000 people. More than 4,000 attended for the entire weekend.
Sporting rifles that usually sell for under $900 dollars were also going much higher, as customers fear President Obama will ban them soon. Some of these rifles were going for over $2,000 each. Many suppliers of these rifles say they’re having trouble keeping up with demand.
The AR-15 was the most popular item at the show.
There was also strong demand for high capacity handguns and ammo.
Editor's note: a reference to automatic rifles in an earlier version of this article was inaccurate, and has been corrected.
