Milwaukee Sheriff disagrees with Obama's gun measures

MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) -  Not everyone likes President Obama’s gun violence measures proposed yesterday. One of the people who doesn’t believe the President’s plan will solve the problems of gun violence is Milwaukee County’s Sheriff.

David Clarke says Obama's proposals are meaningless and called them an emotional reaction to the Sandy Hook school shootings. He says more needs to be done by judges and district attorneys to enforce the current laws instead of creating new ones. Clarke also wants to see an end to what he calls "watered down sentences” and stiffer sentences for crimes involving a gun. Clarke says he would uphold the President’s measures if they becomes law, even though he doesn’t agree with them.

Some sheriffs around the country have said they wouldn't enforce new gun laws.

The president announced a $500 million dollar package of executive actions, and called upon Congress to ban military-style assault weapons.
