Word has it that a backyard bash just wouldn't do when Beyonce and Jay-Z celebrated their daughter Blue Ivy 's first birthday.  According to British tabloid The Sun , the Carters threw a posh, princess-themed party for their baby girl, inviting close friends and family to the New York City gathering.

A source tells The Sun , "Nothing's been too big or expensive for their little princess.  They wanted her first birthday to set the tone for the rest of her life."

The shindig reportedly included nearly $97,000 worth of white and pink roses, along with a $24,000 cake.  In keeping with the princess theme, Blue Ivy's tiny pals were treated to jewelry sets, princess costumes and playhouses.  According to The Sun , the party favors cost Jay and Beyonce around $ 32,000.

As for the grown-ups in attendance, they went home with goodie bags that were packed with concert tickets and personalized gold pens commemorating the occasion.
