The Wisconsin Badgers dropped a third straight Rose Bowl, falling to the Stanford Cardinal 20-14 in the 99th Grandaddy of them all.  Stanford jumped out to a 14-0 lead with touchdowns on its first two posessions.  Both were set up by big pass plays.  Wisconsin battled back with Montee Ball scoring on an 11 yard run.  The senior racked up 100 yards on 24 carries.  After James White was denied on a 4th and goal run from the one, the Badgers got the ball back late in the second quarter Curt Phillips engineered and 85 yard drive, capped by his 4 yard TD pass to Jason Fredrick.  Down 17-14 at the half, the game turned defensive.   Stanford was able to drive 66 yards for a field goal in the 4th quarter and Wisconsin got the ball back with just over 4 minutes to play.  Phillips drove Wisconsin to midfield where he was intercepted with just under 2 minutes remaining.  The Badgers fell even though Hall of Fame coach Barry Alvarez was on the sideline, where he won three Rose Bowl titles in the 1990's.   Taking over for Brett Bielema who departed for Arkansas, Alvarez said he was proud of his team for fighting back in the game but they just couldn't make the key plays when they were needed most.  Wisconsin finished the season 8-6 while Stanford captured it's first Rose Bowl title since 1972.
