The WIAA Boys state high school basketball tournament opened on Tuesday night. In a Division 5 regional opener, the undefeated Packerland conference champion NEW Lutheran Blazers rolled over winless Lena 76-19. Dakota Zinser led the way with 19 points. NEW is not only the top seed, but the top ranked team in the state in D5, now 23-0 on the year. They will face Living Word Lutheran in Friday's Regional semifinal as Living Word beat Stockbridge 66-56. The defending champion in D5, Sheboygan Lutheran, rolled Oneida Nation 73-35. Suring, the number two seed, defeated Sevastopol 59-35. In Division 4, Oconto defeated Menomonie Indian 76-61. Freedom moved past Oconto Falls in Division 3, 83-34. In Division 2, Green Bay Notre Dame beat Green Bay West 75-62. Menasha knocked out Marinette 82-47. In Division 1, Green Bay Preble defeated Green Bay East 67-53 as Connor Kraft scored 19 points for the Hornets.
