Phillip Phillips has debuted the video for his new single "Gone, Gone, Gone," the follow-up to his smash triple-platinum debut, "Home." Like the video for "Home," this one also is low-key, but strikes more of an emotional chord.
The video intercuts footage of Phillip performing the show with home movie footage of various people throughout the decades -- both couples and kids -- smiling, playing and goofing around. There are also brief flashes of a woman throughout, but when Phillip sings the chorus, "I will do it for you, for you/Baby I'm not movin' on/I'll love you long after you're gone, gone, gone," the words seem to apply to love of all kinds, not just romantic love. The video closes with Phillip and his band performing the song at a beach bonfire party.
The clip was filmed in Springfield, Missouri, Los Angeles and Palm Springs, California, and according to the director, Joseph Toman , its themes are meant to be universal: loyalty, hope, commitment and staying together through difficult times.
Toman, says in a statement, "I wanted the video to feel generational, not just about the present, but the people before us that paved the way. It's a celebration of life, and hopefully something that everyone can find something in to relate to."
Phillip, who's currently out on the road with Matchbox Twenty , starts his own college headlining tour March 19 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Augustana College.
