MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) Part of the Wisconsin budget will include money to battle cancer.  Gov. Scott Walker was in Marshfield on Thursday to announce that his proposed 2013-2015 budget will include $3.75-million dollars to help in the fight against cancer.

The Governor said the state funds will help create a private/public partnership with the UW Carbone Cancer Center, and to help build a statewide oncology network. Walker made the announcement in the CT Scanning Dept. at Marshfield Clinic, and said that the funds would specifically be used to accelerate the development of, and increase the access to, molecular imaging technology.

The Governor said, “Cancer, by far, is the state’s most deadly health issue. One out of every four individuals in the state who die in a given year, die from cancer.” He added that cancer has touched the lives of Wisconsin’s First Family in a very personal way as well. Both Walker’s mother-in-law and brother-in-law have died from cancer, and his father is a prostate cancer survivor.
