MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett underwent an angioplasty this week to remove blockages from two heart vessels.
Barrett, an avid runner, was hospitalized for exhaustion at the end of a 20-kilometer run on Sunday which marked his 60th birthday.
He said Wednesday that he plans to resume his running regimen in a few weeks, after he's medically-cleared to do so. He said he was not sure to what degree his arteries were blocked, and an EKG at Wheaton Franciscan-Wisconsin Heart Hospital showed no muscle damage to the heart.
Barrett said he felt blessed that a problem was detected and treated. He spent two days in the hospital before he was released Tuesday.
