Ex-player speaks out against UW-Green Bay basketball coach

UNDATED (WSAU)   Three weeks after his parents filed a complaint, former U-W Green Bay men’s basketball player Ryan Bross has finally said why. Bross, a walk-on center from Menomonee Falls, explained several accusations against Phoenix coach Brian Wardle.

Bross told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that Wardle called him derogatory and homophobic names, interfered with his course selection, and made him lose control of his bowels while running up hills after he complained about being sick. Bross also quoted Wardle as saying he’d be a better basketball player if he had sex.

The 33-year-old Wardle said the allegations are false – but he could not talk about specifics because an independent investigator is still looking into the matter.

The parents of Green Bay senior forward Brennan Cougill have also filed a complaint against Wardle, saying the coach minimized Cougill’s clinical depression as a “distraction” to the team. Others have defended Wardle, including the father of Green Bay center Alec Brown.
