TOMAH, WI (WSAU) - If you think law enforcement catches the bad guys with only the police records following leads, guess again. Social media is a big help.
An off duty Tomah police officer was going through his Facebook account when he recognized a picture on a news release from Madison, showing the man Grant County Sheriff’s investigators were looking for. The officer recognized the man as someone he had recently arrested for trespassing. The same offender was released from jail and then arrested again by Monroe County deputies for disorderly conduct.
The Tomah officer was able to contact Grant County and tell them their wanted man is in the Monroe County Jail.
Several law enforcement agencies have their own Facebook and other social media accounts, which they use to issue photos and media releases, seek tips from the public, and issue general safety information.
