Congress asking Medicare & Medicaid about authority to cut drug benefits in sequester

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAU) -  Several Members of Congress from both sides of the political isle are questioning the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services about their sequester cuts. Over 100 Representatives from both parties sent a letter asking CMS about their statutory authority to implement the 2% cuts, and specifically about how it affects Medicare Part “B” drugs, chemotherapy treatments, and specialty infusible drugs.

Wisconsin’s 3rd District Congressman Ron Kind says, “We’re calling on CMS to do whatever they can to ease the burden of the sequester on people bravely fighting cancer,” adding, “We need to take action now, before more patients lose access to life-saving cancer drugs.”

The letter, which was signed by 124 Members, was submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Tuesday.
