On the eve of the NFL draft, Packers General Manager Ted Thompson released two young players coming off major knee surgery.  Linebacker D.J. Smith, a 6th round pick two years ago out of Appalachain State and undrafted running back Brandon Saine, also signed in 2011 were let go after failing physicals.   Smith played in 22 games and started 9, taking over for the injured Desmond Bishop last season.  He had 80 tackles, a couple of sacks and an interception before tearing his ACL against the Texans in Houston.   Saine, primarily a special teams player, ripped up his knee in the same game.
