WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) - The former administrator at the Marathon County Jail says the facility doesn’t do nearly enough searches of inmates returning there from work release programs.
Bob Dickman says there aren’t enough employees. Dickman spoke out in the wake of an attack last month which left corrections officer Julie Christensen in ICU.
About 80 of the jail’s 279 inmates are in the work-release program. When the inmates return each night, they pass through a metal detector and are patted down, but strip searches aren’t done. That means inmates could possibly sneak in weapons or other contraband.
There’s no indication enhanced searches would have headed off the assaults on Christensen and a second officer, though.
