Man killed by Town of Menasha cop after refusing to drop weapon

TOWN OF MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) - A man is dead after being shot by a Town of Menasha Police officer at an apartment complex on Calumet Street.

Police received a call shortly after 5 p.m. Friday night to the Scottsdale Apartments from a man who was threatening to harm himself.

Officers entered the apartment with a shield where a shadowy figure holding a long gun pointed outward could be seen in the hallway.

The man refused to drop his weapon after an officer ordered him to drop it.

A 17-year veteran with the police department fired two shots.

The man was later pronounced dead.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation in the use of deadly force.

"This is one of those days that no law enforcement agency wants to force"  said Officer Jason Weber with Town of Menasha Police.
