JANESVILLE, WI (WTAQ) - A grocery chain from suburban St. Louis says almost two-and-a-half million credit and debit cards may have been compromised over a period of three months.
And some may have involved customers from far southern Wisconsin.
Schnucks’ officials say customers have found fraudulent charges from throughout the world.
Most of the company’s stores are in the St. Louis area – but according to its Web site, it owns nine Logli and Highlander supermarkets just south of the Wisconsin border in the Rockford Illinois area, and one in Janesville.
Schnucks said it first learned of questionable charges on March 15th and started investigating four days later. Schnucks said it found the problem on March 28th, and contained it within 36 hours.
The breach began in December. Many Schnucks’ customers have asked why they were not told earlier.
