Milwaukee Brewers fall to Gonzalez, Nationals 10-4 Saturday

by

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - Gio Gonzalez became this season’s first 20-game winner, pitching the Washington Nationals to a 10-4 victory over Milwaukee Saturday.

Gonzalez also became the first Washington pitcher to strike out 200 batters since Walter Johnson in 1916.

Ryan Zimmerman and Ian Desmond pounded a pair of three-run homes in the 4th inning to help end the Brewers’ six-game winning streak.

The Brewers have fallen two-and-a-half games behind St. Louis for a National League wild-card berth in the playoffs.

The lefty Gonzalez went 7 innings, allowing just 3 hits and two unearned runs. He is a Cy Young candidate with a 20-8 record and an earned run average of 2.84.

Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta was knocked out in the 3rd inning.

The Brewers did manage to scored twice in the sixth, then Taylor Green hit a two-run homer in the 9th.

Yovani Gallardo pitches for Milwaukee Sunday, against Washington’s Chien-Ming Wang. Pregame on 97.5/1360 News Talk WTAQ is at 11:30 a.m., first pitch at 12:05.
