Steel City thievery

The Milwaukee Brewers continued to keep the pressure on St. Louis and Los Angeles ahead of them in the National League Wild Card race by opening up their final 10 game road trip of the season with a 6-0 shutout of the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Yovani Gallardo won his 8th straight decision, combining with three relievers on a three hit shutout at PNC Park.  Gallardo allowed only two singles in six and  two thirds innings, striking out 6 to improve to 16-8 on the season.   The Brewers racked up 13 hits, all singles, but turned several into doubles by stealing a whopping seven bases.  Nori Aoki delivered a run scoring single in the second, Jean Segura drove in a run in the 4th.  The Brewers tacked on two runs in both the 7th and 8th innings to put the game away.  Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy each had three hits.  Milwaukee (75-72) stays within two and a half games of the Cardinals for the final wild card spot because St. Louis handed Houston it's 100th loss of the year, 4-1 behind Kyle Lohse who worked seven scoreless innings allowing just four hits.  Marco Estrada will be on the mound for the Brewers Wednesday night against Kyle McPhearson who will make his major league starting debut for the Pirates (74-73).

Rickie Weeks has been named one of the finalists for the 2012 Robert Clemente Award, given to the major league player who carries a civic responsibility along with his on field talent.  Fans will cast ballots on line to determine the winner of the award announced during the World Series next month.
