DNR looking for input on plan to open state parks to hunters, trappers

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Lands on many Wisconsin state parks could be opened to hunters and trappers as early as January 1st.

The Department of Natural Resources says it is looking for public feeback on its plans.

Those activities would be permissible from October 15th each year, to the Thursday before Memorial Day.

The Legislature passed a sporting heritage law last session.

The hunting and trapping would be allowed during times when state parks are less-populated, basically after the fall colors are gone and before the summer tourism season gets its start.

The DNR is hosting public comment sessions through the middle of next month. You can also submit written comments directly to the Natural Resources Board online or by snail mail.

The final version of the plan will be taken up by the board in December.
