MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Badger running backs James White and Montee Ball battered the Minnesota Gophers into submission at Camp Randall Stadium Saturday, combining for five touchdowns in a 38-13 win.
The offensive line which had so much trouble doing anything when the season started, ripped huge holes in the Gopher defense this time.
White carried the ball 15 times for 175 yards and 3 touchdowns, with Ball adding 24 carries for 166 and two scores. The Badgers have won 21 straight home games.
The Gophers, who started the season 4-0, have lost three in a row and all were Big Ten Conference games.
Freshman Philip Nelson was the surprise starter at quarterback for Minnesota and performed well. Nelson wasn’t told about the assignment until the team arrived in Madison Friday. He connected on 13-of-24 passes for 149 yards and two TDs. He had two passes intercepted, while also rushing for 67 yards.
