The top seeded and third ranked Green Bay Preble Hornets moved one step closer to a second straight trip to the WIAA Boys State soccer tournament with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against the Bay Port Pirates. Trailing 2-0 at the half, Preble got even on a goal from Evan Garcia with just over 8 minutes left in regulation. Garcia netted the game winner early in overtime. The Hornets (21-2-2) will meet Kimberly in the Division 1 Sectional final Saturday in Kaukauna. The Fox Valley Association champs eliminated Pulaski 4-1. In Division 2, Green Bay Notre Dame defeated Two Rivers 3-1 and the Tritons will meet EWC champion Sheboygan Falls, a 5-4 overtime winner against Little Chute for the trip to state. In Division 3, NEW Lutheran got two goals from Sam Schaefer to beat Howards Grove 3-1. The Blazers will face Winnebago Lutheran for the sectional title. Oostburg also advanced with a 3-0 victory over Columbus. The Flying Dutchmen will play Central Wisconsin Christian for the sectional title. The boys state tournament takes place next week at the Uihlein Soccer complex in Milwaukee.
