DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) - Federal officials propose 21-thousand dollars in fines against a Black River Falls road-builder, for a worker’s death when a crane collapsed near De Pere.
Lunda Construction has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for three serious safety violations. They’re connected with an accident on Highway 41 expressway just south of Scheuring Road on April 20th.
58-year-old Raymond Ashenbrenner was killed when he was struck by a part of the crane he was assembling.
OSHA said Lunda failed to train employees on the safe assembling of cranes – and there was not enough supervision at the job site. A company attorney refused comment Thursday morning.
It was the first two fatal incidents involving Lunda Construction on Highway 41 this year. A Green Bay man was killed July 5th, when a girder collapsed on a bridge in Oshkosh.
The four-lane road is being improved to federal freeway standards, so it can be a candidate for an Interstate designation in the next several years.
