The Green Bay Phoenix mens basketball team finished the Horizon League conference season strong last year, going 10-8. Head Coach Brian Wardle returns most of his front line team entering his third season and the rest of the conference is taking note. Green Bay was ranked third in the Horizon League's pre-season basketball poll released Tuesday. Valparaiso was the pick to win the title, followed by Detroit. Perennial power Butler left the conference to join the Atlantic 10. Junior center Alec Brown was named to the Horizon's pre-season first team all conference squad while sophomore guard Kiefer Sykes was named to the second team. Ray McCallum of Detroit was the pre-season choice for player of the year for the second year in a row.
