OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - When a customer rips off a business, the manager often calls the police – but that’s not what a restaurant owner in Oshkosh did last weekend.
Muli Hajdini said he saw two men leave his Legends Sports Bar and Grill without paying a $20 tab. So instead of calling officers, he put a security camera photo of the two men on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
FOX 11 reports over 7,200 people liked the message within 24 hours after it was posted. Because there was never a police report, the TV station blurred the men’s faces when it showed the photo.
But they were not blurred on Facebook, and Hajdini said he wanted to humiliate the thieves for disrespecting him. A police lieutenant said he wished the restaurant would have called officers – but Hajdini said he won’t call the police over a $20 loss.
Oshkosh defense lawyer Chuck Hertel said that the restaurant better be correct about its accusation, now that people can see the pictures. Hertel said those falsely accused of theft have their names and community standings tainted.
But the restaurant manager says his video backs up his accusation. Hajdini said he would take down the Facebook post if he gets an apology – but he won’t hesitate to do the same thing again.
