HAPPY VALLEY, PA (WTAQ) - For a second week in a row, the Wisconsin Badgers scored late to tie a Big Ten Conference game, then fell in overtime.
This time the final count was 24-21 in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania.
The Penn State Nittany Lions wrapped up an emotional season with their 8th win in 12 starts on a 37-yard field goal. That was the margin of victory when Kyle French’s 45-yard kick went wide left a few moments later.
Badgers star running back Montee Ball rushed 27 times for 111 yards and a record-setting 79th touchdown.
Senior quarterback Curt Phillips hit Jeff Duckworth with a four-yard touchdown pass with 18 seconds left to tie the score, but the late-game heroics weren’t enough.
Instead, Wisconsin lost for the 3rd time in the last 4 games, bringing a lackluster 7-5 record into the Big Ten Conference Championship game in Indianapolis against Nebraska.
Wisconsin’s other score was a 57-yard TD pass from Phillips to Melvin Gordon.
