'The Hobbit': How Many Dwarves Does It Take to Slay a Dragon? — POSTER

By Michael Arbeiter, Hollywood.com Staff

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? How many members of an allotted ethnic group does it take to screw in a light bulb? How many roads does it take to allocate a man to his confirmed manhood? These are calculations even the greatest of wizards would be hard-pressed to tackle. But it seems as though the forces of wisdom have concluded the perfect number of Dwarves to take on the mission of retrieving the stolen treasure from the villainous dragon Smaug: 13.

This army of Dwarves assembles in the below poster for the first chapter in Peter Jackson's new trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, venerating the values of loyalty, adventure, and elaborate beardsmanship. Whereas the last poster focused on the spirit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), this one takes a luck at his band of mighty Dwarve companions. For those studying up on their Tolkienology, here are the names of each of the Dwarves, in clockwise order: Gloin, Kili, Bofur, Bifur, Balin, Dwalin, Nori, Bombur (the one with the biscuit in his mouth, just in case you got lost somewhere along the way), Dori, Fili, Oin, Ori, and Thorin Oakenshield front and center.

Rally your own Dwarves for The Hobbit, in theaters December 14.
