Mother of three slain daughters stops selling of River Falls home

RIVER FALLS, WI (WTAQ) - The family of a man charged with killing his three daughters in River Falls tried selling the home where he used to live with his ex-wife – until she pleaded with a Realtor to stop the listing.

Maria Verven of Edina Realty told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the girls’ grandmother approached the firm about putting the house up for sale. But after getting an impassioned request from Jessica Schaffhausen, the realty firm canceled its listing.

The four-bedroom house had been listed for $229,000.

Aaron Schaffhausen lived in North Dakota before he returned to River Falls in July, and allegedly killed his three young daughters ages 5 to 11 in the home the couple shared before they got divorced in January.

The Star-Tribune said Jessica placed her note to Edina Realty on her Facebook page – and it warned the realty firm that a sale would give Aaron Schaffhausen, “tens of thousands of dollars.” And if the firm had kept the listing, she told them, “You will allow (the girls’) murderer to not only benefit financially, but will also disqualify him for the public defender he is using – which would mean that the entire criminal trial process would be set back drastically.”

Jessica Schaffhausen also called herself “a grieving mother hoping for some kind of justice.”

Aaron Schaffhausen is scheduled to go on trial next April. Four hearings are scheduled before then for various pre-trial matters. The first of those proceedings is set for Wednesday in St. Croix County Circuit Court.
