MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker plans to announce tomorrow morning what he will or won’t do about setting up health insurance purchasing exchanges under the Obama reform law.

The federal government is giving states until Friday to declare whether they’ll set up their own menus of health plans for individuals and small businesses – or whether they’ll take a federal template from Washington.

States can also choose a mixture of the two.

If they choose their own exchanges, they’ll have until December 14th to submit the details for consideration by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Before President Obama’s re-election, Walker tried to distance himself as much as possible from the “Obama-care” law. He was hoping the U.S. Supreme Court would strike it down – and when it didn’t, he said he was counting on a Mitt Romney presidency to repeal the package.  That’s not in the cards, either.

On Wednesday, Iowa’s governor accused Washington of not answering his states’ questions about the purchasing exchanges. Governor Terry Branstad said he would tell the health agency that it needs more information before making a decision.
