MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) - A suspicious incident at a Marinette school is under investigation.
Police say a cleaning lady spotted a person standing in a classrom at Merryman Elementary School around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
That's when she says that person jumped out of a window. A search of the area for that person was unsuccessful.
Officers called in the K-9 unit from the Marinette County Sheriff's Department. The dogs traced the intruder's scent outside of the building, heading south. They lost track of his trail.
Students were not there at the time because classes were let out at noon.
Authorities say the person is male, between 5’2” and 5’4” with a skinny build. They were wearing camouflage clothing and a black and white mask.
While police say this could have just been a foiled student prank, they investigate all intrusions or threats to the schools very seriously after a teenage gunman held classmates hostage and took his own life at Marinette High School on November 30, 2010.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Marinette Police Department.
