In the new issue of Vogue magazine, when asked about her future, Adele responds, "I am f***ing off for four or five years. If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy."
British tabloids pounced on this quote as proof that Adele would be taking a five-year break from the music industry, surely a move that would disappoint her fans. But don't get your knickers in a twist -- Adele has now denied such a break on her official website.
"I’ve a few days off now, and then it’s the Brit Awards here at home and then I’m straight into the studio," she writes . "BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!"
Writing about her Grammy triumph, Adele also says, "Oh goodness!! I’m absolutely flabbergasted!...I keep having flashbacks to Sunday night. The most incredible night of my life. Thank you to you all, I am so overwhelmed, it’s the strangest feeling." She adds, "I was totally unprepared. Despite the phenomenal year, I swear I didn’t think I had any chance. All the categories were full of people I adore with brilliant songs, records and performances." Adele finishes by saying, "Thank you to everyone who enjoys my music...All of this is yours -- the songs, the shows, the moments like this. Not that there’s any other moments like this one, but you get my drift… Ha!"
So if Adele isn't taking time off, when can we see her back out on the road, making up all those concerts she had to cancel last year? Her manager, Jonathan Dickins, tells Billboard, "We have to ease her back. While she's fully recovered, like any injury you need to build your strength back up. I'm mindful of that. I'm gonna let her enjoy this moment and not drive her mad. We'll sit down and work out what we're doing going forward."
