MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Marquette hit 24-of-25 free throws and needed just about every one in a narrow 84-80 home victory over LSU.
Davante Garden put the nail in the Tigers’ coffin by hitting six straight free throws in the final 36 seconds. He came off the Golden Eagle bench to score 19, while Junior Cadougan and Vander Blue each had 17.
The win was the 15th straight at home for coach Buzz Williams’ team and it was a step in the right direction toward forgetting last week’s 49-47 upset loss to UW-Green Bay.
Andre Stinger nailed six three-pointers and led the Tigers with 20 points.
Louisiana State cut the difference to a bucket at 78-76 with about 40 seconds left, but they couldn’t make it all the way back.
Marquette’s win in the non-conference game gives the Eagles an 8-3 record.
