FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to three years probation for firing the arrow that struck and injured a 7-year-old Campbellsport girl last May.
Casey Bennett was convicted in Fond du Lac County court of an amended charge of injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapons, plus an obstruction count for lying to police.
Bennett must also write a letter of apology to Aryanna Schneeberg and the sheriff's department. He also must perform 300 hours of community service.
Schneeberg was playing outside her Campbellsport home. Doctors said she was lucky to be alive after the arrow sliced through her spleen, stomach, diaphragm and lung before stopping at her liver.
Bennett told authorities he was shooting at squirrels when the stray arrow hit Schneeberg in the back.
Prosecutors say the teen initially denied shooting the arrow, and that he didn't come forward because he was scared.
