MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin Senate Republicans pass a bill overhauling the state’s tax enforcement system. The legislation passed earlier today, with 17 Republicans voting for it and 15 Democrats against. It now moves to the Assembly, which is also controlled by the Republican party. The Legislative Fiscal Bureau says it isn’t possible right now to figure out what effect the complex bill would have on Wisconsin’s revenue picture. One provision would shift the burden to the Department of Revenue to determine whether a taxpayer was negligent in paying taxes, or just misunderstood the tax code.
