MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Officials with the Marinette County Sheriff's Department have released the identity of the man killed in an officer involved shooting Wednesday.

82-year-old Ralph Slattery died after being shot by a deputy. Slattery pointed a 12-gauge shotgun at deputies, who had responded to a 911 domestic disturbance call around 1:10 a.m. to his home in the Town of Beaver.

Slattery's 80-year-old wife made the call, and got out of the home safely.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says from what he has seen, the deputies acted appropriately. He also says the department doesn't take the incident lightly.

"Short of having one of our own people killed in the line of duty, this is right up there. Very difficult for us," Sauve told FOX 11.

Ralph Slattery’s family says the situation is very unfortunate and they say they are very upset.

The state Department of Justice is investigating the shooting. More information is expected to be released Friday.
