WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) - A Waukesha County man was sentenced to two life prison terms Tuesday, for shooting two drug dealers and burying them in a private lake in 2002.
A judge refused to give 37-year-old Chad Lurvey any chance for a supervised release in the slayings of Andrew Long of West Milwaukee and Brian Lazarro of Mukwonago.
Both victims were 25, and they were found at the bottom of a six-acre lake owned by Lurvey’s family in the town of Ottawa.
Prosecutors said they were killed because Lurvey owed them money for drugs, and some of the cocaine and marijuana Lurvey stored for them had been missing.
The district attorney admitted the evidence was circumstantial, but other suspects were eliminated.
The defense said the state failed to prove its case, and police failed to interview drug associates who might have wanted Long and Lazarro dead.
Jurors heard two weeks of testimony before convicting Lurvey in late June.
